I don’t see why so many people are unsatisfied with this. Saving her doesn’t mean he feels a romantic attachment. Because he most certainly doesn’t - I saw nothing in this episode to indicate that he felt that way about her. No, this means that he was keeping an eye on her. He knew there was every chance that she could die, so he watched her and saved her when she was in immediate danger - strong moral principle. Remind you of anyone? A quote about someone? Hmm? This scene just means that Sherlock knew it was the right thing to do - why let her die? It’s also adding to the point that John has changed Sherlock for the better.
